“ESTABLISH
THOU THE WORK OF
OUR HANDS, OH LORD”
(Ps. 90: 17)
(Article 4 - Prayer Team #5)
by Ann Arcieri
Did you ever realize that Adam had a
career in the Garden of Eden? He named the animals, tended them and took
dominion over God’s creatures. He found out that glorifying God
through his work was a blessing, then he was able to relax in the cool
of the evening in God’s presence.
With national unemployment near 10%, we
hear stories of families living in their cars, and many are filling shelters
and soup kitchens for the first time in their lives – the “new faces of the
poor” among us. Employers and laid-off or terminated workers and their
families experience fear, loss of security and suffering. People are
asking, “Where is God in all this?”
How can we help people cope in the midst
of the storm of personal and financial devastation? Here are a few
principles to encourage us or our loved ones, friends or neighbors, who are
out of work. These principles can shape our prayer.
1.
Ask God to show us where He is in all the
chaos! He is not just “out there in a new job or
another house or when life finally returns to normal,” but rather He is IN
the center of it all, now, inviting us into the “calm in the storm.”
The Calm in the storm is in heart of Jesus!
There is no other refuge. Only this intimacy and deeper prayer life brings
peace.
