Area of Prayer Focus

"Ecology; Environment; Pollution”
by Rosa Curry
(Prayer Team  #12 -  Article 5)

“For He remembered His Holy Word to His servant Abraham and He led forth His people with joy; with shouts of joy, His chosen ones.  And He gave them the lands of the nations, and they took what the peoples had toiled for, that they might keep His statutes and observe His laws.  Alleluia.”  (Psalm 105:43-45)

How encouraging to see our children and grandchildren take the time to implement their “green” ideas.  It will take everyone’s effort to clean up the earth.  Some families are purchasing what is eco-friendly only.  The stores are filled with prepared meals packaged in non-recyclable materials, yet they are still in demand.  If we hit the manufacturers in the pocket book, they will listen.  Perhaps we should return to taking time to prepare our own healthier meals.  If we don’t have time, then we are too busy.    Children’s programs teach them to “never let the water run” when brushing their teeth, which is a small, but an excellent way to start them off with good habits.

Have you noticed how frugal we can be when money is tight?  We watch our use of electricity, water, gas, and phone calls.  It is time that we go back to the basics.  Let’s hope that we are teaching our children ways to protect and respect our earth and natural resources.

Because of the Lord Jesus’ unconditional love for us, He loves us as we are.  Let us pray that He change our hearts and help us respect what He created for us.

WORDS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 – General Audience

“Safeguarding of Creation”

The Earth is indeed a precious gift of the Creator who, in designing its intrinsic order, has given us bearings that guide us as stewards of his creation. Precisely from within this framework, the Church considers matters concerning the environment and its protection intimately linked to the theme of integral human development. In my recent Encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, I referred more than once to such questions, recalling the "pressing moral need for renewed solidarity" (n. 49) not only between countries but also between individuals, since the natural environment is given by God to everyone, and our use of it entails a personal responsibility towards humanity as a whole, and in particular towards the poor and towards future generations (cf. n. 48). Bearing in mind our common responsibility for creation (cf. n. 51), the Church is not only committed to promoting the protection of land, water and air as gifts of the Creator destined to everyone but above all she invites others and works herself to protect mankind from self-destruction. In fact, "when 'human ecology' is respected within society, environmental ecology also benefits." (ibid.) Is it not true that an irresponsible use of creation begins precisely where God is marginalized or even denied? If the relationship between human creatures and the Creator is forgotten, matter is reduced to a selfish possession, man becomes the "last word", and the purpose of human existence is reduced to a scramble for the maximum number of possessions possible.

The created world, structured in an intelligent way by God, is entrusted to our responsibility and though we are able to analyze it and transform it, we cannot consider ourselves creation's absolute master. We are called, rather, to exercise responsible stewardship of creation, in order to protect it, to enjoy its fruits, and to cultivate it, finding the resources necessary for everyone to live with dignity. Through the help of nature itself and through hard work and creativity, humanity is indeed capable of carrying out its grave duty to hand on the earth to future generations so that they too, in turn, will be able to inhabit it worthily and continue to cultivate it (cf. n. 50).

For this to happen, it is essential to develop "that covenant between human beings and the environment, which should mirror the creative love of God."

Bi-Monthly Now Word

NOW WORD
by Frank Potter

Spend Time with Me.  Do not fear the past, present or future. Trust- Surrender-Focus on Me today. Allow My Spirit to give you meaning and understanding. Learn from Me and know Me as I know you. Open your ears, hear My voice; Listen.

Every day I listen to the “talking heads” on the ‘boob tube,” on the radio, and elsewhere telling me what they think is important.  They give their interpretation of the events of the day.  They tell about the things that they think are important.  On Sunday Mornings they give “in-depth analysis” of the events of the week.  No matter which side the speakers purport to be on, no matter what their underlying views, everybody just seems to make such sense.  You can literally agree with almost every statement they make.  How then can you determine what is right and what is wrong?  Which to follow and which to reject?  Who and what to support and what to work and even fight against?  The public speakers of our day (and their staffs of pundits, speechwriters, and PR experts!) have such skill in presenting their cases.  How are we to know, unless we ourselves dig, and dig deeply into every single issue that presents itself in our very complex world?  Who could possibly find the time—even if we did have access to all the pertinent information?

Well, we have access to One who does know everything.  He who knows not only the facts, but also the “hearts of men.”  We need to spend time with Him, to know Him face to face so that He can guide us on this journey.

Don’t let anyone fool you by using senseless arguments.  These arguments may sound wise, but they are only human teachings.  They come from the powers of this world and not from Christ.  (Colossians 2:7-9)

Christ said you will know false prophets by their fruits.  (Notice that He did not call them bad, or evil, or satanic, but false prophets.)  What are the fruits of the secular leaders you follow?  Do they promote abortion, gay-marriage? Do they favor legalized drug use? Do they take barriers out of the way of pornographers? Are they anti-Christian?  Don’t let yourself be fooled. Get close to Jesus, as close as you can.  Listen to Him.  Open your ears.  Open your hearts.  Trust in Him.  He will lead you on the right path.
